Online Conference

The Atomic-level characterization of hybrid perovskites conference (HPATOM) took place on January the 26th & 28th 2021.

Characterization of new materials at multiple length-scales is essential for understanding structure-property relationships, application in devices and commercialization. While long-range order can be approached using diffraction techniques, atomic-level structure is more challenging to elucidate. The main objective of this conference is to bring together experts working on various aspects of local structure determination (disorder, phase segregation, flexibility, the effect of dynamics) in the context of halide perovskites and related materials for energy applications. The key techniques allowing insight into these aspects include solid-state NMR, total scattering methods and nanoscale imaging. The main challenges in the materials developed today include elucidation whether different component can mix in the ionic perovskite structure to form solid solutions with modified optoelectronic properties, speciation of additives, mechanisms of interfacial passivation, degradation processes and dynamics of the various components. We intend this conference as a means of reviewing the progress in local structure determination in halide perovskite materials to date as well as identifying new challenges across the board. We envisage it as a forum allowing transfer of knowledge between colleagues from different backgrounds and leading to new exciting ideas, collaborations and conceptual breakthroughs.

Topics
Topics to be covered by the conference:
  • • Solid-state NMR of hybrid perovskites
  • • Diffuse scattering approaches to local structure and disorder in perovskites
  • • Probing the surfaces of hybrid perovskite materials
  • • Insights from nanoscale imaging of perovskites
