Discover Valencia
With more than 2,000 years of history, Valencia combines a rich cultural heritage with green spaces, renowned museums, lively squares, Mediterranean cuisine and long sandy beaches. There is plenty to discover, but here are some experiences you should not miss during your visit.
Begin by exploring Valencia’s historic centre and its remarkable artistic heritage. Visit the Cathedral, home to what is traditionally recognised as the Holy Grail; admire the Silk Exchange (La Lonja de la Seda), a masterpiece of Gothic civil architecture; and experience the colours and flavours of the Central Market, one of Europe’s largest and most vibrant fresh-food markets. You can also discover the city’s Roman past at the Almoina Archaeological Museum or enjoy panoramic views from El Miguelete or the Serranos Towers.
Another must-see is the City of Arts and Sciences, one of Valencia’s most iconic landmarks. We recommend combining your visit with a walk or bike ride through the Turia Gardens. Created in the former riverbed of the Turia, this green space stretches for more than eight kilometres across the city, connecting Cabecera Park and Bioparc Valencia with the City of Arts and Sciences.
No visit to Valencia would be complete without enjoying an authentic Valencian paella, ideally by the sea. The urban beaches of El Cabanyal and La Malvarrosa are easily accessible from the city centre and offer a wide selection of restaurants. Further north lies Patacona Beach, while to the south you will find the beaches of Pinedo, La Devesa and El Saler, close to Albufera Natural Park.
If you have more time, Valencia has over 30 museums covering art, history, science and many other subjects. You should also try some traditional Valencian horchata or enjoy hot chocolate with churros. Colón Market, Plaza de la Reina and Plaza de la Virgen are excellent places to take a break while experiencing the city’s lively atmosphere.
