Covalent Interfacial Engineering for Suppressing Defect and Phonon-Mediated Losses in Perovskite Quantum Dots/Polymer Composites

Addressing the synergistic nonradiative losses in CsPbBr₃ perovskite quantum dots (PQDs)/polymer composites arising from interfacial defects and lattice softness is crucial for enhancing the photoluminescent (PL) performance. This study proposes a molecular interface engineering strategy employing the crosslinkable ligand 2-carboxyethyl acrylate (CEA). By constructing coordination-covalent bonds and covalent interfaces between CEA-modified CsPbBr₃ PQDs and a polymer matrix formed via the co-polymerization of CEA and pentaerythritol tetraacrylate PETA monomer, the resulting composites achieve a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 78% and enhanced thermal stability, retaining ~ 41% of their initial emission intensity at 393 K after continuous heating. Femtosecond transient absorption and variable-temperature photoluminescence spectra reveal that the covalent interfaces not only passivate surface defects and suppress non-radiative recombination, but also effectively reduce exciton-phonon coupling and multi-phonon relaxation processes by enhancing lattice rigidity and increasing optical phonon energy.
