High resolution photoelectron spectroscopy and ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy reveal how photon energy, via plasmon excitation, is funneled to the catalytic surface of Au@Pt core-shell nanocrystals in the form of electron-hole pairs. This observation highlights the potential of these bimetallic nanocatalysts for application in photocatalysis.
