Quantum dots are a promising material for applications in photoredox catalysis with a variety of studies demonstrating their ability to mediate photochemical transformations. While work has been done on studying the effects of the ligand shell on quantum dot reactivity, very little has been said as to the electronic structure of the quantum dots themselves in response to these surface chemical augmentations. In this study, we demonstrate the effects of ligand surface coverage of CdS quantum dots with respect to the band edge potential and fermi energy. We utilize this data to rationalize the trends we observe of on the kinetics and yield of quantum dot mediated redox reactions.
