The soft nature of the organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite framework renders likely the generation of defects upon the deposition of perovskite films from solution. Hence, to realize films yielding the highest photovoltaic performance , appropriate molecular engineering of the substrate surface is warranted. We found earlier that judicious modulation of the molecular carbazole layers used as hole selective substrate for crystalizing perovskite films in p-i-n architectures boosts their PV efficiency and stability. Recently, we discovered that the neurotransmitter dopamine templates the crystallization of FAPbI3 films in n-i-p device structures greatly enhancing their performance. The mode of intervention of these interfacial modulators will be discussed,
