Halide perovskites represent a rapidly evolving class of emerging materials whose properties are governed by chemical complexity, structural non-ideality, and interfacial processes. This symposium focuses on halide perovskites beyond the ideal crystal, highlighting how formation pathways, defect chemistry, degradation mechanisms, and hybrid interfaces dictate material functionality and device integration. The objective is to bring together researchers working at the intersection of materials chemistry, spectroscopy, theory, and emerging device concepts to establish a chemically realistic understanding of perovskite behavior. Topics include controlled phase transformations, perovskite–chalcogenide and perovskite-2D material heterostructures, surface ligand engineering, and doping-induced defect states across multiple dimensionalities. Emphasis is placed on applications beyond conventional photovoltaics, including X-ray detectors, photodetectors, sensing, and bio-relevant optoelectronics. The symposium invites contributions that demonstrate how chemical insight enables the rational design of stable, functional perovskite-based materials and emerging devices

Dr. Ahmed Abdelhady holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from The University of Manchester, United Kingdom (2011). After completing his Ph.D., he became an assistant professor of inorganic chemistry at Mansoura University in Egypt. From 2013 to 2016, he was a postdoctoral fellow at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. In 2016, he joined the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), as a postdoctoral-fellow then as a researcher in 2017. In 2021, he became a senior group leader at the Polish Center for Technology Development in Poland, and in 2022 he joined Khalifa University. Dr. Abdelhady has co-authored publications in high impact factor journals covering chemistry, materials science and energy applications including Nature Communications, Journal of American Chemical Society, ACS Energy Letters, Advanced Materials, and Chemical Reviews.
Dr. Moliterni graduated in Physics from the University of Bari, Italy, in December 1991, with a final grade of 110/110 cum laude. Her thesis work was conducted during an 18-month research stay (July 1990 – December 1991) at the Raman Spectroscopy and Remote Sensing Laboratories of ENEA in Frascati (RM).
Currently a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Crystallography (IC-CNR) in Bari, Italy, Dr. Moliterni has over 30 years of experience in the field of Crystallography. She began her research career in 1992, collaborating for over twenty years with the internationally renowned scientist Prof. Carmelo Giacovazzo.
The impact of her research in Crystallography is demonstrated by her various roles and contributions:
